Master Automotive Technician / Consultant

Lillo Engineering is looking to hire an experienced automotive technician with superb diagnostic and communication skills for the position of Master Technician. This is not a typical technician position, as Lillo Engineering is not in the business of repairing vehicles. Rather, the Master Technician will apply the mechanical fundamentals and diagnostic skillset that they developed in the field of automotive repair to assist with the investigation, testing, and analysis of wide variety of automotive- and equipment-related concerns or claims (e.g. vehicle related failures, fires or litigation matters) or other consulting matters.

The tasks that the Master Technician performs will often include inspecting, testing, and/or assessing damaged or allegedly defective vehicles or equipment. They will often collaborate with engineers, sometimes to help develop and execute vehicle or component level tests, analyze vehicle data or records, and draft reports. They will sometimes assist with litigation matters and handle or process evidence items. They may occasionally be asked to testify in a deposition or trial about their technical findings and/or opinions. As such, is essential that they be well-spoken and devoted to objectivity and technical accuracy. It is also important that they be interested in continuing to expand their breadth of expertise, learn the field, and develop into a top-notch technical consultant.

At first, it’s likely the Master Technician will often assist with investigations of automotive concerns or claims in California, which frequently involves analyzing vehicle records, traveling to inspect and document the at-issue vehicle at or near the area it resides, and testing/assessing at-issue vehicle related concerns or claims.

Job Location: Negotiable (hybrid/remote possibilities will be considered). Lillo Engineering is based in Scotts Valley, CA, and plans to hire at least one Master Technician located close enough to Scotts Valley to assist with local tasks.
